Universal Studios

Universal Studios is probably about 3 times the size of Dreamworld on the Gold Coast and the rides are unreal. The latest attraction is a brand new Simpsons ride where you are led through a surprisingly realistic rollercoaster adventure with the Simpson family with Side Show Bob hot on their heels. It simulates a roller coaster where you sit in a car with 7 others and you are elevated into a roow where the entire room is one big screen. While the car doesnt actually move very much - with the visual effects and the strategic movement of the car recreates some of the thrills of an actual roller coaster.

Unfortunately Universal doesnt have any real roller coasters (have to go to Six Flags for that) it does have lots of fun movie related rides and shows. Water World, modelled after the Kevin Costner movie is an action packed show which will dazzle you with lots of jumps and explosions on a large water filled set. Theres even a little banter in the beginning with the crowd where youre likely to get wet. The culmination of the show is pretty impressive too, with even a sea plane being thrown into the set.

Some other highlights:

Tram tour: Take a 45 minute tour of the backlot and some of the special sets and effects used in well known film. I think this one was from Nemo....

Jurassic Park. Short but sweet...and a bit wet...

Explore the insides of a shark....

Fred Flinstone and Wilma. Dunno what the guy in the hat is looking at...?

All in all good fun with things not just for the kids like Shrek but plenty to keep the adults entertained for a full day.
